The Fiji Police Force’s move to revamp the structure of Police Posts in the country has led to the closure of three inactive Police Posts in the Central Division.

And another 20 new Police Posts will be set up as part of this restructure.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed in an interview in Bua yesterday, that they were closing in towards the end of their structural review.

“We have done our studies and we have looked at the demographic shifts, crime statistics and we have had to reposition ourselves to meet the policing demands from the community,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

The Police Commissioner said that they had closed down three Police Posts – located at Suva South, Koronivia and Suva Point.

He said the Suva South Police Post was closed because it was not serving its purpose anymore – in the past there used to be many functions at the Albert Park.

However, the Police Commissioner revealed that a new facility was going to be established in Parliament.

The Koronivia Police Post was closed down because of a land issue.

“It is not our land- so we have closed it down as well.

“We have also closed down the Suva Point Police Post. There are areas like Votualevu Housing, Davuilevu Housing where there is a need for us to move into these areas,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.
