Gstave Leo is one of the 13 confirmed King contestants at this August’s Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.

His advocacy message is ‘Keeping Our Suva Clean’ and he believes this is important.

“For a small country like ours where tourism is one of our leading industries, keeping our city clean leaves a good and lasting impression,” he said.

Likewise, he said this would help preserve the environment and our facilities for the future generation.

WHO IS GUSTAVE LEO?
Gustave Leo, 22, is from Levuka, Ovalau, with maternal links to Buca Village, Vanua Levu, and is the eldest of two siblings.
He attended Rampur College in Navua and currently works as a Real Estate Agent for Suva Realty Management Limited.
What was your first reaction when you were told that you were one of the Kings contestants at this year’s festival?
Gustave: I had just finished work and was on my way home when I got the call from our coordinator. I was overwhelmed with excitement and couldn’t hold myself together. I called my family and my friends at that very moment telling them the good news and without a doubt, I was told I’d have their support all throughout.

What are you most looking forward to for this year’s Festival?
Gustave: This year’s Festival will be different for me compared to previous years mainly because this time I won’t be among the crowd instead I’ll be on stage. I’m anticipating the activities that we the contestants will be participating in and the experience I will gain at the end of this.

Has it ever crossed your mind growing up and watching the festival that one day you’ll be a constestant in it?
Gustave: Yes, and I can proudly say that I have worked hard to fulfil this dream of mine.

Apart from your current position, what do you like doing in your past time?
Gustave: Socialising with family and friends, cooking and tasting new dishes and recreational reading.

Who are your greatest inspiration by far?
Gustave: My parents because they taught me how to make the most of everything and to never give up. I’ve seen them struggle for me and my brother growing up and I vowed to make up for their sacrifices now. I say if it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be the person I am today, still alive and breathing.

Some of the challenges in your line of work?
Gustave: Some of the challenges I face would be the rise in unlicensed agents, overpriced homes and the unethical demands.

What would you like to take away from this year’s Hibiscus?
Gustave: The experience I’d gain from public speaking and the ability to market myself as a real estate agent.
