Nasekula Blues scored an upset 19-8 win over Army in the Macuata Rugby Union weekly club Cup challenge at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

The patriotic fighting spirit of the Blues was fuelled after they received a new set of jersey from their sponsors A. Hussain Company Limited.

What happened: It was Nasekula’s Viliame Maivale who scored the first try in the 20th minute. The soldiers fought hard but were denied by the tenacious Blues defence.

Halftime: Blues 5-0 Army.

Maivale again intercepted a pass by Army, in the 50th minute for their second try, which was converted for a 12-0 lead.

A penalty was given to Army, which was converted by Ilaitia Matavesi. Blues responded with another try through Siuta Tuciri with the conversion going over as they led 19-3.

Army fought back and scored a consolation try to Peniasi Dewala.

Full time: Nasekula 19 – 8 Army.

Comments: Blues trainer Serupepeli Draunimasi said: “We came here to win and we did it. I thank the boys for their sacrifice and the will to fight. This win is dedicated to the people of Nasekula in Fiji and other parts of the world. And a special thanks to our sponsor A. Hussain and the villagers of Nasekula.”

Army manager Masiwini Ligenasio: “We’ve a very young team and I would like to commend them for a great effort.”
