It was one of the most memorable moments for Olympian Josua Tuisova who made his debut for the Vodafone Flying Fijians as they beat Scotland 27-22 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

The crowd went wild every time the 23-year-old got the ball and he definitely made his presence known on the field by bulldozing his way through and lashing out hard-hitting tackles on the Scots.

Tuisova said it was a real challenge for him going against Scotland who are ranked as world’s number five and he’s excited that he won on debut.

“First of all, I really want to thank the Lord Almighty for giving me the strength and the power today,” Tuisova told SUNsports.

“Being with the Flying Fijians and training with these talented men all week has been a very memorable experience for me.

“It has been a learning experience for me, training alongside those who have played in the team for a long time and those who are well-known in the world of fifteens rugby. It’s just amazing and it has been an incredible journey for me.

“I’m so proud of the way the boys played out there and they kept their composure on the field despite it being really tough.

“Scotland is a good team and they gave us a run for our money but I’m excited that we won, especially on the day that I’m making my debut for the team.”

With the World Cup qualifiers coming up in July against Tonga and Samoa, Tuisova says, that will be a real testing ground for the Fijians.

“Despite winning today we really need to step it up from now on ahead of the qualifier which is the ultimate aim,” he said.

“We really need to prove ourselves in those games against Tonga and Samoa, but definitely this win against Scotland will give us that boost. I want to thank all the boys for the hard work and my family for supporting me and the win is dedicated to the people in Fiji.”
