Former Fijian rugby international Seremaia Bai inspired the TOPEX conference delegates on Saturday night about his rugby journey story.

Be An Inspiration (BAI) was the powerful message that he challenged everyone with.

Raised by a single mother, Mr Bai said life was never an easy journey.

He left school at the age of 15 and had to go back to his village to farm.

He reached a stage in his life when he thought it was all meaningless.

He did not perform at school, nor could he continue with farming so he made up his mind to pursue his passion for rugby.

Now married for 17 years, Mr Bai singled out his wife, Mere, as his biggest motivator.

“She has been the backbone of everything that I do.

“She never gave up.”

He gave an example of a time when they had to budget five drumsticks in a week to feed their baby until the next pay.

But his faith and family support has kept him going.

Mr Bai also shared a useful life lesson relevant for business leaders today: “The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle.”
