The Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Top Executive (TOPEX) Conference 2017 was success, says President Himen Chandra.

The two-day event he adds is about providing a forum for the senior executives of FCEF members and leading businesses and business related entities in Fiji to network, downloading best practises from around the world and soaking up as much information as possible.

He made those comments at the closing dinner to mark the end of the two days of networking and deliberation of fundamental talks on business at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort on Yanuca Island last Saturday night.

“The two day event has allowed executives to come out together to discuss and refresh on key business related issues and of course to forge business networks,” he said.

The theme for this year was ‘Responsible Business in a Green Economy’.

“Climate change has been an issue of concern, the challenges is drawing upon us with a much greater impact. For us in the business its adverse effects are becoming real and there is need to explore mitigation and adaptation strategies in order to remain visible.”

He added that there had been an exponential growth from 40 delegates when the event was reintroduced in 2010, now it was over 170 delegates indicating the success and promise of the FCEF.

“I believe all delegates present this year will agree that the private sector will now rather than later have to rise to the challenges of ensuring a brighter future for our nation.”

Furthermore over $1400 were raised by the participants for a good cause at the Gala dinner on Saturday night.

Within 10 minutes monies were collected and were handed to the host Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort for their Corporate Social Responsibility project.

He thanked the sponsor for their conference contributions, Gold sponsors International Labour Organisation, Telecom Fiji Limited. Silver sponsors Vodafone, FIJI Water and Asco Motors.

Bronze Silver sponsors BSP, HFC, Vinod Patel Home and Living, Goodman Fielder, Rooster Poultry, British American Tobacco, Total and Star Printery.

Mr Chandra said the dates for next year conference would be confirmed in March 2018.
