It was an overwhelming moment for Cam Robinson of New Zealand after he won gold in the men’s Under- 18 javelin event during the Oceania Athletics Championship at the ANZ Stadium, Suva last night.

The Kiwi participated for the first time in the championship and threw a distance of 63.03 metres followed by Australia’s James Telford with 55.58m and third place was Fiji’s Darcy Cammick with a throw of 51.69m.

Robinson dedicated his first gold medal to his loved ones.

“It feels awesome representing my country for the first time and despite the humid weather which was abit difficult for me to adjust, I feel I still managed to do well,” he said.

“Personally, I wasn’t really expecting to win as this was my first time participating and it feels great. I took part in two events today which was the under-18 men’s javelin and senior men’s javelin and I’m looking to better my performance in the future.

“I would personally like to dedicate this win to my parents and my coach for having  faith in me to come this far away from home and compete in this championship.”
