A Labasa driver escaped injuries on Tuesday after his vehicle ran into the back of a tractor carrying cane to the Labasa Sugar Mill.

“Drivers should be more cautious when driving within the vicinity of a sugarcane mill and or sugarcane areas,” Saimone Lagave the tractor driver said.

According to Labasa Police at the scene, the motorist is alleged to have been speeding and hit the tractor that was in front of him.

Mr Lagave says he was driving at his normal speed as he always does when delivering cane to the mill.

He said he heard a loud noise behind the tractor and thought that it was caused by one of the tyres.

He stopped as advised by other motorists and saw that the driver of the car was already out of the car as it was damaged.

He said the motorist was immediately taken to the hospital.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the accident and said investigations were ongoing.
