It was a proud moment for Fiji’s Isireli Bulivorovoro when he won the gold medal in the men’s senior long jump event during the Oceania Athletics Championship at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

Bulivorovoro jumped a distance of 7.28metres followed by Sam Toleman of Australia who jumped 7.14m and Waisale Dausoko with a leap of 7m.

The 22-year-old, Ovalau native dedicated the win to his parents.

“This is for my parents for their moral, spiritual and financial support throughout my sporting journey,” he said.

“Also, I would also like to glorify the Lord for his blessings and guidance throughout my participation in this event and I couldn’t have reached this far.

“It’s actually my first time winning gold for Fiji.

“Preparations wise, I was physically and mentally strong expecting to win just a medal but a gold is just an icing to the cake.

“I feel blessed as everything went well this time around for me. I would like also congratulate my fellow competitors and thanking them for giving me a tough competition.”
