Dodson wins gold for mum

Jeremy Dodson of Samoa was thrilled after he won the gold medal in the men’s 100 metres final during the Oceania Athletics Championship at the ANZ Stadium, Suva last night.
Dodson clocked 10.86 seconds followed by Nazmie Leemarai of Papua New Guinea with a time of 10.58s while Australia’s Sority Flottmann finished third with 10.99s.
“It feels really satisfying winning gold for my country,” he said.
“I would like to dedicate my win to my mum as I’m representing her country. And I am pretty sure that she would be the proudest person as this is the whole reason why I participated.
“I was actually eyeing to break the record but since I was enduring some injury so I just tried to play it safe. I’ve experienced a lot on social media about me being a real Samoan and now I’m proud that I have given my best to the country.”
