Film Fiji participated in the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), last month (June) at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, Shanghai, China.

SIFF is a non-specialised, competitive, international film festival recognised by the International Federation of Film Producers Association and one of the biggest film festivals in East Asia with just over 250 exhibitors.

Since this was Film Fiji’s first participation at the event. Ioane Naivalurua, the Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Fiji in China and Dr Yolinda Chan, the Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai bolstered Film Fiji’s effort and visited the Fiji booth at the venue.

The Shanghai Consulate office also provided a secretariat and logistical support to the Film Fiji team throughout the Exhibition.

Film Fiji CEO, Mr Dallas Foon said, “We were very happy to participate in the Shanghai International Film Festival and can’t thank our Ambassador and our Consul General enough for their tremendous support whilst we were there.

“We have received good enquiries from filmmakers, producers and production services companies, who have shown interest in what Fiji has to offer.”

Film Fiji also met with senior executives of the prominent state owned enterprise, China Poly Group Corporation, and discussed filming opportunities and film infrastructure opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative, that was part of the meetings with the Chinese Government and the Prime Minister of Fiji on his recent trip to China.

Film Fiji is now working on the strong interests from China and hopes to see further Chinese productions in the country in the near future.
