NCDs Linked To Parents’ Negligence

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar says that parental negligence sometimes becomes a factor behind children’s exposure to non-communicable diseases.
She made this comment while speaking at the end of drug awareness week at Suva Primary School, in Samabula, yesterday.
Ms Akbar said at most times parents were busy with their work that they end up forgetting their roles as parents to see that their children lived a healthy lifestyle.
Ms Akbar urged parents to practice backyard farming so that it could a source of healthy food for them and their children.
“Reduce time spent on watching television, reduce consumption of sugar and exercise more,” she said.
Ms Akbar further added that if people were careful of what they consume then it would make things easier for her as the Health Minister.
She said that healthy lifestyles started from home and that there was a need for people to start creating awareness on the issue.
“We can’t change a nation if we can’t change ourselves. Children be champions of healthy living,” Ms Akbar said.
The event was attended by students of Rishkul Sanatan Primary School, Kuku District School, Dravo District School and Nabitu District School.
