Teachers in the country are happy with the pay rise they have received as part of the 2017-2018 Budget.

Abhilash Chand who has been teaching for 15 years said it was a good thing that teachers were finally getting a pay rise.

“This was a long overdue increment as we did not get an increment in the last budget,” Mr Chand said.

Laolesh Chand who is a vice principal who has been teaching for 23 years voiced the same sentiments for the 14.3 per cent increment for vice principals.

“They teach and do extra work at management level and this new scale would compensate them for their extra efforts.”

Head teacher Mohammed Taiyas Hussain thanked the Minister for Education and the Government for the announcement and wished all the teachers the best with their new salary.
