Hosting Of 2019 Pacific Games Up For Grab, Says Lakhan

The Pacific Games Council president Vidhya Lakhan yesterday invited countries who are interested to host the 2019 Pacific Games to send in their expression of interest.
This was after the Council was advised on May 29 by the Tongan government that they have withdrawn from hosting the Games. A June 30 deadline was given for Tonga to reconsider their decision but nothing eventuated.
“Therefore, on behalf of the Pacific Games Council, I formally invite PGA’s to lodge an expression of interest to host the 16th Pacific Games in 2019 as expressions of interest will be due on Monday, July 31,” Lakhan said.
“The executive board will then conduct an assessment process throughout August, which will include visits by the president and CEO to prospective host locations, and aim to make recommendations on a host location by the end of August.”
