PENI DRAUNA, Labasa

Army beat Blues 20-11 during the Macuata Rugby Union club games final at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

What happened: Army started strongly and pressured the Blues defence. This saw them run in the first try to Navitalai Masitabua with the conversion missing for a 5-0 lead.

The match got scrappy with Emosi Qera copping a yellow card.

Blues fought back and in the last minute of the first half they managed to score a try through Maciu Koroadi as the conversion went wide.

Halftime: Army 5-5 Blues

In the second half Army changed their game plan by spinning the ball wide. This enabled them to break through the Blues defence, which saw them score three unconverted tries to Pita Misinai, Sailia Masioliva and Opeti Utoni.

Blues managed to kick in two penalties from Mesake Volati to keep the scores at 20-11

Comments: Army manager Iniasi Masiwini said: “We’re so pleased with the players performance throughout the 80 minutes.”

Nasekula coach Sakaraia  Talatu said: “We still have the cup as this was the challenge final. We will continue to work hard to defend the cup in the next challenge.”
