Boxing Commission Maps Way Forward

The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) will be organising seminars for promoters, manager and boxers in the coming months.
BCF chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai said they are looking ahead and see the need to educate and update all stakeholders.
“We’re also in the process of finalising guidelines for promoters, managers, and boxers of what they need to be aware of and follow,” he said.
“These are some strategies to ensure, we are on the same page and speak the same language with a shared vision.”
Mataitawakilai said they are now into their third month and they used last Friday’s programme to observe and evaluate.
“That is how we’re going to improve the standard of professional boxing in Fiji and that is by implementing mechanisms and formalities to safeguard the public, boxers and promoters.”
Mataitawakilai said a lot of gaps were identified last Friday and there is a lot to be done in a short period of time to lift the sport.
“We’re in need of interested individuals to join the boxing body as officials. Again we wish to reiterate that no boxer will fight unless registered with BCF.
“In addition, boxers by now are to be aware that we’ve received requests from promoters to have boxing programmes until the end of the year; therefore there will be no room for unprepared or unfit boxers.”
He also urged managers and coaches to contact BCF officials, promoters, and the provincial youth administrators for a copy of the registration forms.
