The youngest member of the Lautoka rugby side Simione Sema aims to lift his performance against Rewa in the Vodafone Vanua Championship semi-final battle at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori on Friday night.

The 20-year-old who also plays rugby league believes on the need to assist his team to win back their spot in Skipper Cup competition.

The youngster made his debut for the Maroons this season.

“It was a privilege for me to be part of the Lautoka provincial side this season and to come this far, I’m really honoured,” he said.

“Being in the side has enabled me to gain experience especially in my rugby career. I’m also blessed to play along with some senior players who have been playing for Lautoka in previous years.”

Sema played for the Ba Provincial Freebird Institute Under-18 rugby side in 2015 and was part of the touring Fijian U18 rugby league team to Australia in 2014.

He said winning the Vodafone Vanua Championship is his major goal before he turns 21 next month.

“Our aim now is to be promoted back to the major union, we’ve been working hard and we know the expectation from our supporters is high.

“We respect Rewa and the fact that they’re hosting us and we know it will be a tough challenge coming our way on Friday,” he added.
