Top Scoring Vadei Aspires To Follow Her Dreams

Peniana Vadei, 13, was not only the first to finish at the inaugural Green Olympiad Competition she was also among the few who scored full marks.
The Year Eight student of Saint Joseph the Worker School took part in the first online quiz competition.
A total of 6450 students from 213 primary schools took part in level one (Year 5 and 6) and 7117 students from 234 primary schools took part in level two (Year 7 and 8).
The quiz increased awareness about climate change.
Peniana, of Sawaieke, Gau Island, was presented prizes at their school yesterday, said she never expected to win but she thanked her teachers and parents for letting her take the opportunity to learn more about climate change.
“The competition was the leading way for my career path which was important for me to know what I’m learning at this early age, to know my goals,” Peniana said.
“I want to become a politician or an ambassador to represent Fiji to the world as we take the presidency for the COP23.
“At first, learning new things was a bit challenging because we did not learn about climate change and other related issues in primary schools before, but now I have come to know the importance of it.
“And I believe that we should learn about it because it helps us to acknowledge what we have and what we can achieve by doing the right thing.
“Not only that, we should also practice clean and safe environment for all,” Peniana said.
She received a Samsung tablet from Courts, $100 shopping voucher from Jack’s of Fiji and six meal vouchers from McDonald’s.
