Provision Of Cane Trucks Are A Blessing

Solove Canefarmer Prakash Chandra said the provision of trucks to transport their cane to the mill in Labasa was nothing short of a blessing.

“We are happy for that load has been taken off our shoulders,” Mr Chandra said.

Solove is in the interior of Seaqaqa and located at about 45 kilometres from Labasa Town

“I for one had to pay for $15.50 per tonne, and a trip would cost about $186 a trip. This would greatly help us,” he said said.

“Another one fertilizer subsidy, Seaqaqa has a poor soil quality; the fertilizer subsidy would help farmers access more fertilizer on their farms for better yield.”

Cane farmers in Macuata have been reassured about their role in the economy after the provisions following the recent Budget announcement.

Labasa farmer Ravnil Raj shared the same sentiments saying that this was a wonderful move by the Government to assist farmers.

“I think this is great and would help us greatly.”

There are 3200 cane farmers in Macuata.
