The Baby Pearls got off to a flying start with a 55-28 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana on Saturday night.

Fiji led 20-6 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 34-12 at halftime.

Despite Trinidad and Tobago’s efforts to come back, the strength of the Fijians held through as they kept their lead right through to the third quarter (44-20) before winning 55-28.

Fiji will need to prove themselves again as they took on Wales at 4am today.

Day one results: Sri Lanka 48-69 Scotland, New Zealand 89-22 Northern Ireland, Australia 86-33 Zimbabwe, South Africa 62-30 Barbados, Jamaica 43-41 Cook Islands, England 69-23 Wales, Botswana 72-26 Malaysia.
