We need to learn from our mistakes, says captain Kahatoka

The Fijian Under-21 netball team won their second game by beating Wales 48-35 in the World Netball Youth Cup at the UB Indoor Sports Arena in Botswana yesterday morning.

This was after the Vicki Wilson coached-side thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 55-28 in their first game on Sunday morning and continued on with their winning form.

Fijian U21 captain Episake Kahatoka said yesterday she was proud of how the girls have been performing in each of their games.

“The game was really physical and very tough for us but we were definitely expecting it playing against a team like Wales,” Kahatoka said.

“Wales had suffered a big loss against England before their game against us, so we knew they would come on strong and hungry for their first win. But I am so proud of the girl’s performance, they were literally on fire on the court and I think our win against Trinidad and Tobago boosted the girls a lot.

“I am so proud of what they did, the shooters were nailing their goals each time, the mids were fast and strong when taking the ball down the court while us defenders did a pretty good job at maintaining our discipline on the semi-circle.”

But Kahatoka knows that keeping up their performance and taking it a step further from the last game is very important.

“One thing we need to do is to be consistent in each of our games, we know that it will only get tough from here on out,” she said.

“From each game we take back the positives and learn from our mistakes.”
