Last weekend the Fiji Surfing Association conducted their first junior team training camp at the Rendezvous Surf Resort.

The squad of six surfers; Api Camoro, Kalani Wakeham, Ulai Tukano, Kalama McKellar, Kiesha and Kayla Wakeham were put through two days of intensive training. The camp was made possible through the generous support of Hot Bread Kitchen and Rendezvous Surf Resort.

Their surfing was evaluated by Level 2 coaches Lesi Navuwai, Inia Nakalevu, Romeo McKellar and national head coach Ian Portingale. Surfing out at Cloudbreak in good 1-metre conditions the surfers’ technique was adjusted to improve certain aspects of their performance.

Back at base at the Rendezvous Resort the team went through yoga sessions, fitness sessions, pool sessions and skateboard sessions.

The team responded well with many improvements made by each one. More work is to be done before the team leave on September 18 for the ISA World Junior Titles in Japan.
