The Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa, has endorsed the Government’s initiative to direct $500,000 in support of the National Women’s Expo.

She made these comments yesterday during her response to the National Budget 2017-2018 in Parliament.

“For an allocation of $500,000 the Government has provided this allocation to support the National Women’s Expo particularly in the marketing of the Fijian Made products, which I wholly endorse,” Ro Teimumu said.

However, in terms of increased funding for the Fiji National Council for the Disabled Persons, Ro Teimumu said consideration needed to be given to the health care, housing and community to support these people.

In regards to jobs, “sadly there are unprecedented levels of unemployment in the country, especially youths,” she said.

Furthermore, she said careful thought should also be given to the teaching in schools as extra curricular activities of traditional arts and crafts and other exhibits for sustainability, income earner and economic contribution to the country.

Ro Teimumu also asked if the Government could keep their promise pending from 2015 and install power to the 13 villages along the Wainibuka River.

She also requested the Water Authority of Fiji to work together with the new Ministry of Waterways.

She asked them to fast track the proper workings of the Kinoya sewerage plant in terms of toxic and hazardous material and trade waste discharged into the Rewa river system and heavily polluting our waterways.
