French Embassy, Suva City Library mark Bastille Day

Feedback from schools about event overwhelming, says Embassy.
Bastille Day will be celebrated today – the French National Day commemorating the storming of Bastille on July 14, 1789.
As part of the celebration the Suva City Library and the Embassy of France had a three-day activity with children since Wednesday.
Embassy of France public affairs and communication advisor, Moira Vilsoni, said it’s the first time they had organised activities at the library.
“The interest from various schools as far as Taveuni who have called us up wanting to know more about the day,” she said.
Ms Vilsoni had a session with about 20 children on what the day was about, its history, the French culture, with a question and answer session as well.
For Year Seven student Katelyn Qumi of Holy Trinity Anglican School found the session interesting.
“I learnt what the French people eat and their culture, which I didn’t really know a lot about,” she said.
Sessions include storytelling and art activities and everyone is welcome from 3pm to 4pm at the Suva City Library this afternoon.
The official celebration of Bastille Day will be held at the French Ambassador’s residence this evening.
