Quick action by the National Fire Authority (NFA) stopped an early morning fire from spreading to nearby houses at Nananu Village, Tavua on Thursday morning.

But NFA was too late to stop the fire from engulfing a house a few metres away from the two houses.

The fire has left four people homeless.

According to an NFA release the Tavua Fire Station had received a call at 10.51am but upon arrival the one bedroom corrugated iron and timber structured house was fully engulfed in flames.

The 25-year-old woman who was in the house at the time was rescued by the villagers.

Two Fire Trucks were engaged to put out the fire.  The Fire Team had managed to save the owner’s personal belongings.

NFA investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
