Port of Suva.

An oversight led to a container shipment of medicines sitting at the Port of Suva for 253 days awaiting clearance.

The shipment was consigned for the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services.

This cost to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services was $48,984.60.

The 2016 Auditor-General’s Report revealed that the negligence of the Fiji Procurement Office officers resulted in wastage of public funds.

To ensure there is no repeat of this, the bond checking has been re-introduced.

Stakeholders and shipping agents’ permission is requested for warehouses to be physically inspected for any pending Government consignments.
