Maliana Rusivakula has openly challenged her elder sister Afa Rusivakula for a spot in the Fijian Pearls team.

The Year 12 student of Jasper Williams High School arrived with the Baby Pearls last night after finishing fourth in the Netball World Youth Cup in Botswana last week.

Maliana can either play as goal-shooter or goal-attack.

“I have set a benchmark for myself to move up to another level and join the Fijian Pearls. And that means battling for a spot with my sister,” she said.

She thanked Almighty God for the blessing and guidance.

The championship was an eye opener for Namuka, Bau, Tailevu native.

“It was a great experience playing against top teams from around the world.  Getting our fitness to another level and it was a new ball game for us. We need more competition like that to be competitive.”
