Was happy that the Open Day was an eye-opener

Dira Ahkee wants to become a lawyer to make her family proud.

The 17-year-old of Savusavu and Year 12 student of Jai Narayan College said she visited the Fiji National University Open Day at Nasinu Campus with a dream to become a lawyer.

She said she was inspired by the Open Day organised by FNU but her main focus was on law programmes.

“I want to make my family proud. They have sacrificed a lot for my future and my studies and pursuing a career in law would be the best option.

“I was inspired to do law by watching movies and TV series related to law and criminal activities.

“I find law very interesting and while growing up I had relatives who graduated in various other fields but none in law.

“I believe that in Fiji, we need more lawyers to represent everyone and help all those in need because most good lawyers are expensive to hire and not everyone can afford them.

“I want to help my country and all Fijians to provide them with a service without focusing on a high price,” Dira said.

Good turnout

FNU Pro Vice Chancellor Eci Nabalarua said the first day turnout went very well with 15 schools that visited the Open Day.

“We are expecting another 40 schools tomorrow (today) and we will ensure that the students are well engaged in the activities and programmes offered by FNU.

“We had very good inspirational and motivational activities for the students to look out for as their career options.”
