Helpline receives 1000 plus calls in month

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services toll free line 157 received 1121 in the first month following its launch in Suva on June 15 this year.

The Ministry had confirmed that people had raised concerns via the Customer Care Centre on such issues as long waiting times, staff attitudes and delays in obtaining results and reports from their health service agencies.

There were also calls related to environmental health issues like drainage, garbage and pollution issues.

On the positive side, there had been a number of calls from people wishing to comment on improvements in the services offered by the doctors and nurses.

MHMS acknowledges complaints made via the 24 hour customer care centre.

The ministry also said that at the moment it was difficult to give figures on the number of calls received in each division but in the coming months they would be able to provide a more detailed analysis of the nature and origins of calls once the service has been in use for a few months and patterns of use have settled down.
