2 in court for alleged assault on Police
Two Keiyasi farmers from Navosa will be appearing in the Sigatoka Magistrate Court today charged with assaulting Police officers.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said on Thursday the officers, arrested and charged a 23-year-old farmer of Edrau Village, Keiyasi for allegedly assaulting a 38-year-old Police officer.
“The accused was allegedly drunk and acting in a disorderly manner and was confronted by the officer to go home. In the process he allegedly assaulted the officer,” Ms Naisoro said.
He has been charged with serious assault and will be produced at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court.
In a separate incident but on the same day, a 29-year-old, farmer, also of Keiyasi Village, is alleged to have assaulted a 35-year-old officer.
“He was allegedly drunk when he committed the offence. He has also been charged with serious assault and both will be produced at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court tomorrow (today).”

Police arrest alleged drug farmer
The Fiji Police Force on Saturday arrested a Yalalevu farmer who had been on the run since a drug raid was conducted at his farm on June 14.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Sakiusa Basa was arrested in Tukavesi in the province of Cakaudrove and was being questioned at the Tukavesi Police Station.
“More than 1000 marijuana plants were uprooted during the raid from this 37-year-old farmer last month,” Ms Naisoro said.
“Upon information received a team of officers arrested Basa in Tukavesi on Saturday night.”
