Some brave Lautoka City Council workers together with the National Fire Authority were last night working hard to contain a fire from spreading at the Vunato rubbish dump in Lautoka.

Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said last night it was yet to be established how the fire started.

“We have contained it from spreading to other parts of the dump.”

“It will take some time since there is a huge stack of rubbish which is quite high. This will take about one or two days (to douse).”

According to Mr Nakauvadra the fire started on Sunday afternoon and investigations with NFA were underway.
