Navy Commemorates 42 Years with Weeklong Activities

The Republic of Fiji Navy has marked the 42nd anniversary with a week of celebration this week.
Yesterday, a parade was organised and officiated by Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.
42 years ago, today, the Fijian Navy was established.
Operations officer Lieutenant Commander Timoci Natuva said they have designed a number of activities for the weeklong event.
“This year we are engaging in community work which will help our Fijians followed by a cocktail party with all the key stakeholders at the base.
“The final celebrations are on Friday.
“The celebration this year is to mark another year of service and hard work done by our officers.
“The Navy’s total strength is 344 including officers who are onboard ships and serving overseas.
“For us, the aim is to look at how far we have come for the last 42 years.”
He said they also presented the Navy’s plans over the next three to five years to Rear Admiral Naupoto.
“On Friday we will have a celebration just to thank the officers for the work they have been doing with Fiji Navy and showed their commitment to us.
“On Friday, we are also commissioning the maritime surveillance centre which will be officiated by Minister for Defense Ratu Inoke Kubuabola,” Mr Natuva said.
