For the first time there will be a baby show at the Vodafone Savusavu Carnival.

Carnival media liaison officer Pettine Simpson said the inclusion of the baby show was a partnership with the Cakaudrove Medical Subdivision.

The show which will be held on Friday at 9am will be in three categories. The categories are 2-6 months, 7–12 months and 13 – 24 months.

“Mothers are requested to bring along their baby’s (MCH) Maternal child health card,” Ms Simpson said.

Ms Simpson added it was also targeted to encourage an extended catch-up programme of immunization.

Meanwhile, the five queen contestants will be participating in the tree planting programme on Saturday at the Savusavu foreshore.

“This is to promote sustainability and with municipalities comes development.

“And most of the developments taking place are not sustainable so the queens are trying to lead by example to save our native trees,  and replace any trees that have been removed due to development.

“We need more trees, for oxygen. This is Savusavu’s contribution to assist in reducing global warming.”
