The Land Transport Authority has launched new Road Code Books in the  Hindi and iTaukei languages.

Authority chief executive Carmine Piantedosi told of this  during their meeting with the Fiji Driving Schools Association in Suva yesterday.

He said it was important for people to understand the road rules and codes when applying for their licence.

“We want to make sure that people understand the importance of road rules and codes,” Mr Piantedosi said.

“We do not want to put people out there in an unsafe situation because they can’t drive or understand the road codes and rules,” he said.

“The driving schools have raised the issue with us that their students had difficulties in understanding road codes in the English language.

“So we thought to bring out the road codes book in the two major vernaculars to assist them,” he said.

The new vernacular road code books will be available at all the authority centres the next four weeks.
