Crew Member Injured From Nabouwalu Mishap

Patterson Brothers Shipping is exhausting all necessary means to ensure well being of one of their crew member who suffered serious injuries while working on their inter-island vessel Spirit of Love at Nabouwalu Jetty on Tuesday.
This was confirmed by Patterson Brothers Shipping media liaison officer David Patterson.
“The crew member has some serious injuries while performing his duties at the Nabouwalu Jetty,” Mr Patterson said.
He is now admitted at the Labasa hospital after being tranfered from the Nabouwalu sub-divisional hospital.
“We have been informed that our staff is under stable condition.
“We won’t be giving out the details of the crew member because it is very sensitive.
“We are monitoring his condition and on standby should he need our assistance.”
Meanwhile, the boat master and officers are preparing reports for relevant authorities.
Mr Patterson said the boat service was not affected by this incident.
It has been alleged that while manoeuvring the boat to embark at the Nabouwalu wharf, the crew member’s leg got caught around the rope that he suddenly fell into the sea.
Police spokesperson Inspector Jokatama Qio also confirmed that the injured crew member was 22 years old. He is now admitted at the Labasa Hospital.
“Police are continuing with the investigation,” Inspector Qio said.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Labour was carrying out their investigation because the incident happened during working hours.
