It was going to happen sooner or later.

Osea Kolinisau’s exit from the Vodafone Fijian 7s squad should not come as a surprise. The Rio Olympic Gold medal 7s winning captain has decided that he has achieved his dream here by winning the ultimate prize and it’s time to ply his trade in the United States playing for the Houston Strikers.

Kolinisau has been a great ambassador for Fijian 7s rugby on and off the field and we salute him for his contribution. His wide grin and happy countenance are part of his popular trademark, win or lose.

It was therefore surprising that he would not talk and asked that he be left alone when he was approached by a Fiji Sun reporter to comment on his pending move to the US.

We understand that it is his right to choose whether to speak to the media or not and we respect it. But we must say it was a rare response because he has always been open to the media.

We take this opportunity to wish him all the best for his American experience. His great legacy as an exemplary player in the abbreviated code will always be cherished.
