The Power Of Choice

Waya, Yasawa, native 37-year-old Inosi Nauatiqe knows that he has the power of choice to decide what to buy at a supermarket.

He knows that making the healthiest food choices when shopping and eating out is a key to consuming a well-balanced diet.

He lives with his 86-year-old grandfather and he wants him to eat good healthy food every day.

For this to happen, Mr Nauatiqe said he had to prepare his shopping list well.

“I must make sure that what are on the list are healthy groceries,” he said.

When he was a child he usually accompanied his mother when she went for her shopping trip and had learned her shopping tricks.

“She takes her time and always has patience when shopping. She never rushes and that is what I usually do when doing my groceries shopping.”

Mr Nauatiqe works at the Ministry of Health in Nadi and one of the things the ministry champions now is the fight against non-communicable disease (NCD).

He does his shopping twice a month at MH Supermarket, Namaka.

According to Mr Nauatiqe the supermarket is clean and the staff are very friendly.

Their products are well displayed and customers easily find what they want to buy.

When asked about the health of his grandfather he said – “He is healthy and fit”

He said he would like to reach his grandfather’s age and he knows the key to it will be eating balanced meals every day.
