The Fiji junior team to the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Surfing Titles in Japan will be officially presented today at the PBS Lighthouse Classic presentation in Suva.

Surfers Api Camaro, Kalani Wakeham and Keisha Wakeham have earned their place in the three-person team to be coached by national surfing head coach Ian Portingale.

The surfers have been training hard for three months now and will need to be at their best in the expected strong international field.

“It is expected that over 45 countries will be represented in Japan,” Portingale said.

“Every country has their focus on the 2020 Olympics that will be held in Japan so the competition will be very high.

Our Fijian team have been impressive throughout their training and they are expected to put on a strong performance themselves.”

To boost their preparation, the team have received some funding from the Fijian National Sports Commission along with generous donations from Latham Constructions and several expats but still more funding is needed.

Fiji Surf Co along with top shaper Nick Tansley has also generously assisted the team with new surfboards especially designed for the Japanese surf.
