The Fijian women’s basketball team suffered a 93-51 loss to India in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017- Division B in Bengaluru, India yesterday.

The Fijians took the game to the hosts right from the start. The first quarter was tightly contested but India eventually began to push out the lead.

The shining light for Fiji was once again Mili Koyamainavure, she put on a sterling performance ending the game with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists. Tiyana Kainamoli also added 9 points and 3 steals.

India’s speed, size and outside shooting proved too much for Fiji.

As a result, the Fijians now face Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankans like Fiji are yet to secure a win in the competition.

This game could be a good chance for Fiji to channel the improvements they had made throughout the week to notch their first win. The clash will determine their placing for the final day of competition. If the Fijians defeat Sri Lanka then they will play for the 5-6th spot in Division B of Asia.

The Fijians could make a remarkable debut if they are able to make the top five in their first ever FIBA Asia Cup.
