This year’s University of the South Pacific Open Day theme was: “USP – Shaping your Future”.

Vice Chancellor and President Rajesh Chandra said the theme reflected the role that USP played in equipping its students with knowledge, competencies, skills and attributes for life-long success.

“What distinguishes USP from other providers of higher education is its quality and international accreditations and recognition of its programmes,” Vice Chancellor Chandra said.

“This means that programmes offered by us are just as good as those offered by universities in Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere, but our programmes cost much less and are contextualised to the Pacific.”

The University now has 22 programmes that have international accreditation and four international recognitions.

Apart from the University’s three faculties, it offers skills based qualifications through its Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) which has grown rapidly in the last four years.

Pacific Technical and Further Education offers 33 qualifications and is expected to grow based on regional demand.

Last year, 72 per cent of the university’s graduates were in full time employment four months after their graduation.

“We are only two per cent behind in terms of full-time employment of graduates from Australian universities,” he added.

The university has been allocated a total of $30.7 million in the 2017-18 National Budget.
