Dreketi came out strongly in their “do or die” situation when they held Rewa 1-1 in the Vodafone Premier League clash at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

The Marika Rodu coached-side struggled as the players lacked discipline which saw star striker Iosefo Verevou and Taione Kerevanua shown the red card in the second spell.

What happened: Dreketi started strongly and took the lead in the 21st minute through a Vilikesa Sowani goal. Rewa were not at their best as indiscipline and taking poor options were their downfall.

Halftime: Dreketi 1-0 Rewa.

After a pep talk from coach, Marika Rodu, the Delta Tigers came back fired-up to score the equaliser. They took the game to the Dreketi defence and got a penalty for a foul in the box. Veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau stepped up and made no mistake from the spot kick. The match became scrappy with Kerevanua and Verevou receiving their marching orders.

Comments: Dreketi team manager Mukesh Kumar said: “We played really well and fought to the last minute. The players stuck to the game plan and the result was favourable to us.”

Rewa coach Marika Rodu said: “The first half was not good, Dreketi came out strong in the first half and disturbed our game plan. We have had a long season and the boys have been training and playing from last year and it does not take a week’s break for the boys to fully recover. This does not mean that we’ll lose focus on the Vodafone Premier League.”
