The annual firewalking ceremony at the Sangam Mahamariamma Firewalking Temple drew a crowd of hundreds of people at Vunivau, Labasa, to witness the annual event.

President of the temple Nalinesh Sami said the ceremony was held after 10 days of prayer and devotion.

“There were altogether nine devotees both old and young that walked on the seven meter long and six inch deep fire pit for over a period of 10 minutes.

“The fire pit made up of soil is lit for three continuous days.

“We believe that if the devotees earnestly prayer for that one week surely their feet will not get burnt and whatever they wish for will be granted,” Mr Sami said.

“Fortunately, no one got burnt and the devotees proved that they were loyal and faithful to the goddess of fire.”
