Cuvu College booked their spot in the Coke Zero Deans Trophy semi-finals for the first time after defeating Suva Grammar School 22-3 in the quarterfinal at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

With majority of the players currently in the Nadroga Rugby development programme, the team made their mark in the first 10 minutes scoring the first try.

This was after an effective lineout move resulting in number eight Michael Soko scoring and converted by first five-eighth  Apakuki Raivoka, 7-0.

Suva Grammar earned their first points through a penalty kicked by first five -eighth Josefa Mataika.

Halftime: Cuvu 7-3 Suva Grammar.

Cuvu College played according to their plan devised by Nadroga Rugby coaching director Franck Boivert and lifted the momentum as they scored three unanswered tries through Douglas Daveta, Napolioni Kurusiga and Ilaisa Droasese.

The side proved too strong in all facets of the game and were unstoppable.

School principal Navneet Mishra acknowledged the support of Nadroga Rugby and the vanua o Nakuruvarua.

“This means a lot to us, we thank the boys for a good performance.

“We have a lot of people coming forward to help us, we want to thank the people of Nakuruvarua,” Mishra said.

SGS head coach Meli Baleidrokadroka said they lost to a better side.

“We were unfortunate when one of our players was sin-binned, that affected our performance,” Baleidrokadroka said.
