The Duavata North Crime Prevention Carnival kicked off with a march through the town of Labasa on Saturday supported by a crowd of about 300 people and ended at the Damodar City complex site.

The contestants marched to the grounds with Bula wear to welcome the week long carnival in Labasa.

The six queens, five kings, five teenage queens with five princesses competing for their respective titles will be advocating on crimes of grave concern in the communities in the North including child abuse and violence against women.

Divisional Police Commander Northern Senior Superintendent Verani Nakauyaca was very enthusiastic about the theme of the pageant.

“I support this carnival wholeheartedly as it supports the police drive to decrease the number of crimes in the North,” SSP Nakauyaca said.

He said the people of the North should enjoy the week long carnival.

“With the theme ‘Crime prevention is for everyone’s safety’ it is the North’s priority,” he said.

He said the festivities would be a safe week for Labasa Town with the closing at the crowning of the respective titles to be announced next Saturday.
