The recruitment of 17,000 election officials for the 2018 General Election began on Friday.

According to Fijian Elections Office Stakeholder Awareness co-ordinator Edwin Nand, the Elections Office opened their first recruitment centre at Kshatriya Hall in Suva.

He said a steady stream of applicants arrived at the venue as early as 7am.

“The applicants were tested on literacy and numeracy,” he said.

This is the first time in Fiji where a large scale recruitment is being conducted directly on computers.

A recruitment drive had been rolled out in 18 venues across the four divisions in the country.

Alongside the establishment of the recruitment drive, the Elections Office has now confirmed that its helpline, ‘1508’, is active.

“The 1508 platform will be operational between the hours of 8am and 5pm every week day to answer any queries that applicants may have,” Mr Nand said.

“This is the only helpline for queries and may I remind all applicants that they have to use the reference number issued to them at the end of the application process when making calls to this number.”

The recruitment centres in all four divisions will be open today with a few open until 9pm for those not able to attend during office hours.
