The 2017 Coke Zero Deans Trophy semifinals for the Under-16 and U18 grade will not only determine who goes into the finals but who will be picked for the national team to tour Australia.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union secretary Biu Colati says, the semifinals will be an interesting one and the presence of development officers who will be picking players for the national teams will elevate the competition.

“I think the competition this Saturday will be interesting, looking at the quarterfinals, all the teams have proved themselves to be the best,” Colati said.

“The fans will definitely be in for a treat because only the best reach this far. What will make it even tougher is the fact that the games that is U16 and U18 will play will also be a trial for the national team that will tour Australia.

“The players know the selectors will be there and a lot will be on the line for them because I know they all want that exposure.

“Players will need to step-up if they want to be considered for the tour and this will really lift the competition. However, it will be tough for the selectors to choose because these young players are so talented.”

Given the tough competition, Colati says, the team that gives away less possession will come out victors.

“I think the schools have showed why they deserve to be in the semifinals and I will be expecting them to lift their performance from last week. We will be looking forward to the games.”

In the U18 semifinals, Cuvu College will take on RKS, while Saint John’s College meet QVS.
