The Cuvu College Under-18 rugby side are working on their defence as they prepare to face Ratu Kadavulevu School in the Coke Zero Deans Trophy semifinal at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Saturday.

Last Saturday, the Nadroga based- school walloped Suva Grammar School 22-3 in the quarterfinals to bury last year’s disappointment where they lost 8-7 to Nasinu Secondary School.

The side have three survivors from last year’s campaign. They are No.8 Michael Christopher, second five-eight Douglas Daveta and hooker Manoa Mocelutu who is also the captain.

“It was a painful season for us last year when we lost to Nasinu Secondary School in the quarterfinals,” Mocelutu told SUNsports yesterday.

“We will try to improve and make it a remarkable season since it is my last year. With the backing of the team we can etch the name of our school and our province on the trophy for the first time.”

The school has produced top players like All Blacks speedster Waisake Naholo and former big Wallabies winger Taqele Naiyaravoro.

Mocelutu said they respect RKS and playing them will not be easy.

“It will be a good game and they have been a good team so far. We’ve seen some of their combination and their style of play. The main thing for us will be keeping our discipline especially against RKS.

“In the western zone we faced discipline issues like players getting sin-binned and even red cards in the game so we’ll have to minimise our mistakes. Preparation is underway, and we’ve worked on our defence and our running lines.”

Mocelutu also thanked their teachers, schoolmates, sponsors, parents and guardians for their support.
