Sales Rep Charged For Fatal Accident

A sales representative who was allegedly involved in an accident causing the death of a pedestrian has been charged by Police.
The suspect, a 24-year-old man, will be produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
He is charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death.
According to Police, the accident happened around 11.30am on Sunday.
The vehicle was driven by the suspect travelling towards Namaka with two other passengers, including a child.
The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle which than veered off the road and smashed onto the fence wall of Tanoa Skylodge Hotel in Waqadra.
It is alleged that the vehicle hit a 30-year-old Japanese student and her two-year-old daughter.
The two were taken to the Nadi Hospital before they were then transferred to the Lautoka hospital.
Police confirmed the mother died at 3.30am on Monday while the child remains in serious condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
The 30-year-old Japanese student arrived into the country with her daughter to study the English language at the Freebird Institute in Namaka, Nadi, said a Police source.
Police said the post mortem results indicate that the victim suffered multiple injuries, including skull fracture.
The suspect was charged after the post mortem result was released.
Tribute from hotel staff:
According to the Tanoa Skylodge Hotel, the two checked in on July 14 and were expected to check out on August 4.
The accident victim was loved by the hotel staff.
Ravinesh Prasad, the head chef, and Mala Ranjeshni, front office rep, said she had left a great impact on them because of her loveable nature.
“We have been so attached like a family during her stay with us,” said Ms Ranjeshni.
Mr Prasad said: “After doing her laundry that morning, they had breakfast and they opted to go for a walk, then we were shocked to hear that they were involved in an accident.”
A Freebird Institute executive confirmed to this newspaper that they were facilitating the arrival of the victim’s family who arrived into the country yesterday morning.
