Market Business Helps Family

Waibau mother 41-year-old Siteri Tema had been a market vendor at the Suva Market for 15 years. She said she was the sole breadwinner but she got the support from her husband who is a farmer at Waibau.
“My husband helps me by going to the farm to harvest cassava, dalo and ginger for the market,” she said.
“Some of my vegetables I buy from Chinese farmers, like my tomatoes, cabbage and pawpaw the rest I bring from home.”
From her sales at the market, Tema has been able to pay for her children’s education and also for their daily meals.
“I think this business is very helpful to me and my family, I am able to buy my children’s school things, buy groceries and other needs in my home.”
On the difficulties she faced she said on rainy days if was difficult for her husband to harvest root crops and her sales usually dropped.
However she said her family was able to survive from what she got from the market every day.
