The Fijian Elections Office has opened a new voter service centre in Nausori.

The centre also looks after the Eastern Division including voters on Rotuma Island.

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Suresh Chandra said that Fijian Elections Office had split the country into administration areas for more effective elections management and logistics.

The theme selected by the Electoral Commission since March 2017 till March 2018 is ‘Raising the standards in the delivery of elections in Fiji’.

Divisional co-ordinator for Nausori, Atish Chand will supervise 411 polling venues and approximately 900 polling stations.

Mr Chandra said the pre-polling times for the next general election would soon be calculated and released by Fijian Elections Office.

“It is our highest endeavour to ensure that pre-poll schedules are known to those living in the areas affected well in advance, to allow them make adequate preparations,” said Mr Chandra.

He said services were not exclusive to Eastern Division voters but anyone who was in the vicinity could access their services.

Mr Chandra thanked the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, and his team for their hard work to ensure that the timelines were met and new centres opened on time.

“I’m hoping that the Nausori office is customer friendly so that Fijians enjoy the best service that is on offer,” he said.
